Ok, the photo of this is so incredably bad that I nearly want to cry. And if its imaginable, the scan was even worse.
I spent over 20 hrs painting every individual hair, and minute details on everything else, and you can't even tell... *sigh* I almost want to say don't full veiw, cause then you can just see every odd reflection and blur better.
anyways, this is my entry for =Lyanti's contest.
The theme was 'what is love'. Apparently, we both seem to have the same idea of what love is... she put it well, saying ' Love is selflessness and sacrifice, placing others before oneself.' Since we also seem to think first of the same example of love- Jesus Christ's death on the cross, I kinda figured it'd be cheating if I drew that...
So I came up with this instead. I was randomly working on a sketchy doodle of my escaped slave gardener character 'Mint', when the idea popped into my head. Its a scene at some sort of slave working place, at sunset, after a hard days labour. The pup, being quite exhausted, seems to have made some sort of mistake, punishable by a possibly fatal beating. His mother was near by, and has pleaded with the slave master to take the punishment instead of her young son. The slave master seems to be thinking it over, whip in hand.
Oh, and I'm not entirly sure what species they are... I think I'm gonna go with the mom being a wolf/coyote cross, and her unseen mate being a wolf, which explains the pups wolfish appearance. (The guy up top was supposed to be some sort of jackal-ish dog)

Time taken: 20+ hours *faints*
The time you spent definately shows. I think this is your best piece to date. Great job! You have just risen a notch on my talented artists scale.

This is incredible! You did a wonderful job on the fur, and I do not think the picture came out to bad. XD I love that she is protecting her son against a slave master, that's very admirable. I like this a lot, thank you for joining!

Very powerful imagery and emotion. And, I'll be honest, it's very hard for an image to really pull an emotion response outta me, but this one did. That makes it very special in my eyes, and it doesn't even need a description to do that.
Some people have been asking me about this stuff so I decided to gather all information in one single article on how to make your own portfolio, in a profesional and clean looking way. I hope it's useful, because these steps I myself take.
DeviantArt is full of extremely well produced artistic fashion and fine art photographs. Make up. Styling. Creation of scenery. Story. Light. Glamour. A combination of these expressions sometimes make up a great photograph. But the protagonists of these pictures are usually female.
So... now it's the time for male models to come into focus.
How to make DA work for YOU! Taking an in-depth look at how to make deviantART work for you, and getting the most out of your user experience. How to get comments, watches, your work scene, commented on, critiqued, and what you have to do. These are some of the things which I have learned since joining more than 4 1/2 years ago.
`karemelancholia is one of the most genuine deviants you could ever met. Always active and a true deviantART cheerleader and supporter in every aspect. You can always count on her to lend a hand or get involved, and you usually will find her doing large amounts of both at any given moment. She's consistently reports on contests around dA, showcases the efforts of her fellow artists and shows her charitable side through various activities. Besides all of this, she's a truly talented artist which is why she's an obvious choice for deviousness this month. Read More
